Law Revision Campaign

DUSA is working to have recently abolished Law Faculty Revision Weekends reinstated for off-campus law students. It is our aim to ensure students are also given the opportunity to fulfill PLS requirements during those weekends. ... Almost a full year since Revision Weeknds were officially cancelled. How have your results compared this year to last? Let us know what sort of impact their withdrawal has had on your studies.

Law Revision Weekends are a vital and integral part of a Deakin Law Degree. They provide sudents with face to face contact with academic staff and fellow students, allowing many complex law issues to 'gel' and come together for students. Deakin University prides itself on the level of integration and support that the University offers it's off-campus students, however by removing this valued opportunity Deakin is taking away the edge that Deakin Law students obtain through their physical interaction with lecturers and staff.

Every student needs time and opportunity to revise and prepare for assessment. Students having an opportunity to get together and revise is really inportant. Many of us learn by discussing new ideas, and hearing other points of view. Law revision weekends also provide a valuable opportunity for off-campus students to meet and engage with their peers and the University community.

These weekends would help enormously. DSO is great, but it's no replacement for meeting other students face-to-face so that we can all do well! Being off campus can be isolating at times, it's so good to know that you're not the only one.

One of the reasons I decided to study off-campus, was the revision weekends. Now that they're gone, I feel ripped off, as I'm expected to pay the same fees as an on-campus student does, but don't get the same face-to-face teaching and learning experience. I have also failed a lot of my law units, and have been warned that I can get kicked out of Deakin if I don't pick up my game - that'd be a shame considering all the student debt I've racked up, for a course that I have to do all by myself at home with hardly any help!

The situation is absolutely disgraceful. We pay the full fees as on-campus students and get a fraction of the benefits. Either lower the fees for off-campus students, or actually give us our money's worth. Aren't we students too, and aren't we paying you to teach us?

These were a very helpful part of the learning process in my first year, it would be great to see them re-instituted especially now that we are on shorter trimesters!

Being an Off-Campus first year law student, such revision weekends would be very welcome. Whilst not struggling with anything, listening to others and discussing topics we are all learning would certainly help cement the knowledge.
